140-10 June 15, 2010 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Township of West Orange Police Department was eligible for the FY 2009 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant provided for by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance; and WHEREAS, the City of Newark Police Department was designated as the lead agency in Essex County to receive and then redistribute the grant to local municipalities; and WHEREAS, the Township of West Orange Police Department qualified for $13,197.00 in grant funds with no local match required; and WHEREAS, the Township of West Orange Police Department needs these funds to assist with the purchase of a Respirator Fit Test Machine, Air Purifying Respirator (APR) replacement cartridges, and APR carriers for the agency. The PEOSH Respirator Protection Standard requires that the West Orange Police Department provide its’ employees with respirators to protect them from airborne hazards. The fit test machine will ensure that the agency is in compliance with federal law (29 CFR 1910.134) which specifically states that annual fit testing must be conducted for all officers issued an APR. Additionally the funding will ensure that officers are provided with the appropriate APR canisters pursuant 29 CFR 1910.134. WHEREAS, the Township of West Orange Police Department has received $13,197.00 from the City of Newark as its share of the FY 2009 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Township Council of the Township of West Orange, that the Mayor and Township Clerk be, and hereby are, respectfully authorized to receive this grant award.
