162-10 June 29, 2010 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, snowfall and rainfall in the first half of 2010 resulted in one of the wettest periods on record; and WHEREAS, the spring rain fall in conjunction with a snowy winter resulted in significant quantities of inflow and infiltration in the Township’s sanitary sewer system; and WHEREAS, the additional sewage flow placed a strain on the Township’s westerly interceptor sewer to the point where overflows of sewage occurred in several low lying basements in homes on Lessing Court: and WHEREAS, by letter dated June 21, 2010 the Municipal Engineer of the Township of West Orange requested the Township Council authorize the Municipal Engineer to negotiate an emergency contract or contracts to alleviate this condition in two homes on Lessing Court – numbers 3 and 5; and WHEREAS, the work proposed under this contract is for the installation of individual ejector systems for each home to isolate the plumbing for each house hold from the westerly interceptor sewer; and WHEREAS, the estimated cost per household is $35,000 to $37,500; and WHEREAS, the Township Council concurs in the foregoing. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Township Council of the Township of West Orange that the Municipal Engineer is authorized to negotiate a contract or contracts to eliminate the over flow of sanitary sewage into the basements of homes at 3 and 5 Lessing Court on an emergency basis pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:11-6 through the installation of individual ejector systems. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Municipal Engineer obtain the authorization of the Township Council to increase any expenditures in excess of $75,000. Karen J.
