MEMORANDUM TO: Zoning Board Administrator FROM: Walt Kipp, Township Forester RE: Daughters of Israel removal and landscape plan DATE: November 16, 2022 I have reviewed the tree removal and landscape plans prepared by Petry engineering. Landscape plan I have no issues with at this time with saving more existing trees it will adjusted most likely. I am concerned about the following issues which are in the town tree ordinance: (a) To the greatest extent possible, for each tree removed pursuant to the standards of this section of a DBH of four (4) inches to no more than six (6) inches, the applicant shall plant a major or minor tree as defined in this chapter on the removal property. According to the plan you are removing 303 trees which approximately 10% of the trees to be removed fall in this category. I would like to save more of existing trees on this site. (b) To the greatest extent possible, for each tree removed pursuant to the standards of this section of a DBH of more than six (6) inches, the applicant shall plant a major tree as defined in this section on the removal property. According to the plan you are removing 303 trees which approximately 90% of the trees to be removed fall in this category. I would like to save more of existing trees on this site. (c) Whether the proposed cutting down or removal would allow soil erosion. I like to save more trees on hillsides surrounding the property if possible. Help protect hills from eroding surrounding the site. (d) To the greatest extent possible, specimen trees and other large trees (ten (10) inch DBH and greater) shall be preserved. I would like to save more large trees on the property. (e) Existing tree protection. In connection with any construction, prior to the issuance of a building permit or start of construction, snow fencing or other protective barriers acceptable to the official charged with the administration and enforcement of this section shall be placed around trees that are not to be removed. The protective barriers shall be placed beyond the drip line, but in no event less than ten (10) feet from the trunk. I will work with contractor and engineer to help save existing and protect the valuable trees during the construction project. Also adjust the landscape plan. Approximately 100 existing trees can be saved on this site with tree protection and maintenance pruning.
