West ORANGE © CHAMBER OF Commence MEMORANDUM To: West Orange Township Council and Planning Board From: West Orange Chamber of Commerce Date: July 14, 2025 Subject: Concerns Regarding Proposed Ordinance 2929-25 Ordinance Amending Chapter 25 Section 11.10 Regarding Outdoor Cafes The West Orange Chamber of Commerce appreciates the Township’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our residents. However, we write to express concern regarding the proposed Ordinance 2929-25, particularly as they relate to outdoor business activity. The restrictions outlined in the proposed ordinance appear to be overly rigid and risk placing an undue burden on our local businesses. We are particularly concerned that the proposed regulations may discourage outdoor dining, limit creative business programming, and create confusion for business owners seeking to comply. We encourage a balanced approach for the welfare of residents and our businesses. In this regard, we are also in full alignment with the recommendations submitted by the West Orange Downtown Alliance. We urge the Township to reconsider the ordinance as written and to work collaboratively with local business organizations to develop a more flexible, supportive framework.
