11-21 January 26, 2021 Resolution Condemning the Anti-Democratic Insurrection at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. WHEREAS, on January 6, 2021 domestic terrorists attempted an anti-democratic insurrection at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., incited by the President of the United Stated and certain Members of Congress thereby putting our nation’s leaders in danger; and WHEREAS, the Township Council of West Orange adamantly and unequivocally condemns the violent terroristic attacks intended to overthrow the will of the people of the United States and its free and fair elections and dismantle our democracy in the strongest possible way; and WHEREAS, the Township Council of West Orange adamantly and unequivocally condemns the violent terroristic attacks upon the law enforcement officers of the Capitol and those who responded to their aid; and WHEREAS, the Township Council of West Orange joins the urgent calls of our nation to protect our democracy and the citizens of the United States of America for the most severe and swift consequences for all who planned, enabled, or participated in these seditious acts; and NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Township Council of West Orange calls upon our United States Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., our United States Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Richard J. Codey, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblyman John F. McKeon and Governor Phil Murphy to Call for governmental censure of President Trump for his role in inciting this insurrection; NOW, THERFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Township Council of West Orange calls upon our United States Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., our United States Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Richard J. Codey, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblyman John F. McKeon and Governor Phil Murphy to demand the immediate removal of President Trump through the 25th Amendment or impeachment; NOW, THERFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Township Council of West Orange calls upon our United States Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., our United States Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Richard J. Codey, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblyman John F. McKeon and Governor Phil Murphy to publicly condemn the white privilege afforded by

prepared for and treated the white supremacist insurrectionists versus peaceful protestors of color; NOW, THERFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Township Council of West Orange calls upon our United States Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., our United States Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Richard J. Codey, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblyman John F. McKeon and Governor Phil Murphy to insist on a thorough joint-agency investigation into the failure to secure the Capitol Building, both in advance and in the midst of the insurrection, through appropriate coordination with federal and municipal law enforcement and the National Guard; And NOW, THERFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Township Council of West Orange calls upon our United States Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., our United States Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Richard J. Codey, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblyman John F. McKeon and Governor Phil Murphy to demand the Department of Justice prosecute all those who incited or were complicit in the insurrection, including President Trump and Members of Congress, to the fullest extent of the law. NOW, THERFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Township Council of West Orange calls upon Senator Richard J. Codey, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblyman John F. McKeon and Governor Phil Murphy to take all steps necessary to protect the New Jersey State Capitol in Trenton in light of the continuing threats by these domestic terrorists. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Municipal Clerk shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Murphy, Senators Booker and Menendez, Congresspersons Sherrill and Payne, State Senator Codey, Assembly members Jasey and McKeon.
