40-22 March 1, 2022 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, in September 2020, the Township of West Orange (the “Township”) entered into a groundbreaking relationship with the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris, Inc. (the “MHA”) to establish a program, whereby MHA trained professionals accompanied police officers from the West Orange Police Department (the “WOPD”) on certain calls involving mental health and mental health related issues (the “Program”); and WHEREAS, this Program has been successful and is now being showcased by other law enforcement organizations; and WHEREAS, the Township has applied for a grant from the United States Department of Justice (the “DOJ”) seeking grant funding to fund the operation of the Program; and WHEREAS, by letter dated December 16, 2021, the DOJ issued a letter advising that it had approved and awarded a grant in the amount of $525,000 over the course of three (3) years to continue the Program, annexed hereto as Exhibit “A;” and WHEREAS, the Township seeks to formally accept the DOJ grant. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWNSHIP COUNCIL OF THE TOWNSHIP OF WEST ORANGE, that the Township is authorized to accept the grant from the DOJ awarded as set forth in the DOJ’s letter, annexed hereto as Exhibit “A;” and be it further RESOLVED that the Police Chief of the West Orange Police Department be and hereby is authorized to execute any and all documents on behalf of the Township to effectuate the award and receipt of the DOJ grant funds; and be it further
