Aggressive marketing techniques, educational programs, and legislative initiative are insuring demand for the product produced and will facilitate a successful operation. The uses for the product include the following: fertilizer supplement, soil aeration, top dressing, new athletic fields, growing mediwn, moisture retention, erosion repair, decorative cover, slope stabilization and land reclamation. The greatest demand for the product is in growing suburban areas. The product is sold in the market]ilace as a soil amendment for outdoor applications. The compost is presently sold in bags and bulk form. Educating the public about the benefits of using yard waste compost and. mulch is a key task to increasing the demand for the product. While the benefits of adding fertilizers to soil is believed to be widely understood by the general public, soil amendments, such as yard waste ~ compost, are not recognized as being as beneficial. Thus, an education program, designed to increase demand for yard waste compost has been designed that clearly states the importance of adding organic material to soils, in addition to nutrients. Overall, the product improves the physical, chemical,.and biological properties of soils. It serves primarily as an organic amendment and a soil conditioner.
