2844-24 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER 7, TRAFFIC, SUBSECTION 7-23.1, TURN PROHIBITIONS, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE TOWNSHIP OF WEST ORANGE BE IT ORDAINED, by the Township Council of the Township of West Orange, in the County of Essex, State of New Jersey as follows: Section 1. Subsection 7-23.1, Turn Prohibitions, of the Revised General Ordinances of the Township of West Orange is hereby supplemented and amended as follows: (italic type denotes deletion, bold type denotes addition): Intersection Turn Hours/ Movement Prohibited Prohibited Days Pleasant Valley Way and Left 7AM-9AM and Northbound on Pleasant Greenwood Avenue 2PM-4PM M-F Valley Way to Westbound on Greenwood Avenue Section 2. If any provisions of this Ordinance or application thereof, under any circumstances, is held invalid, the invalidity shall not affect any of the provisions or applications of this Ordinance that can be given effect without the valid provision(s) or application and to this end, the provisions of this Ordinance are severable. Section 3. All other Ordinances or parts of Ordinances inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. This Ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication in accordance with law and approved by the County of Essex, Board of Chosen Freeholders. 2844-24 LEGISLATIVE HISTORY This Ordinance will prohibit left turns from Pleasant Valley Way northbound to Greenwood Avenue westbound during School Hours at both West Orange High School and Kelly Elementary School. This Prohibition was requested by residents of Greenwood Avenue who experience traffic congestion from parents making U turns in their driveways in order to drop off their students at the nearby schools, and drivers trying to skip the traffic light at Eagle Rock Avenue. At these times of day, there is already traffic congestion in the neighborhood from local residents leaving for work and school busses. This Ordinance is designed to make traffic safer in the neighborhood.
