2874-24 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER 7, TRAFFIC, SUBSECTIONS 7-26.1, BUS STOPS, 7-10.2 STOPPING OR STANDING PROHIBITED DURING CERTAIN HOURS ON CERTAIN STREETS ON CERTAIN DAYS, and 7-14.2A PARKING PROHIBITED ON CERTAIN STREETS DURING CERTAIN HOURS OF CERTAIN DAYS OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE TOWNSHIP OF WEST ORANGE BE IT ORDAINED, by the Township Council of the Township of West Orange, in the County of Essex, State of New Jersey as follows: Section 1. Subsection 7-26.1 Bus Stops, of the Revised General Ordinances of the Township of West Orange is hereby supplemented and amended as follows: (italic type denotes deletion, bold type denotes addition): BUS STOPS (AT VARIOUS SCHOOL LOCATIONS) STREETS HOURS Along Gregory Place, eastbound on the northerly side thereof at: Between Gilbert Place and Gregory Avenue beginning 113 feet from the 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM easterly curb line of Gilbert Place and extending 240 feet easterly. SCHOOL DAYS Along Gilbert Place, northbound on the easterly side thereof at: Between Club Boulevard and Gregory Place beginning 45 feet from the 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM northerly curb line of Club Boulevard and extending 555 feet northerly. SCHOOL DAYS Section 2. Subsection 7-10.2 Stopping or Standing Prohibited During Certain Hours on Certain Streets on Certain Days, of the Revised General Ordinances of the Township of West Orange is hereby supplemented and amended as follows: (italic type denotes deletion, bold type denotes addition): Name of Street Side Hours Days Location Gregory Place North 7:00AM-9:00AM School Days Starting 100 2:00PM-4:00PM feet east of the easterly curbline of Cobane Terrace to the easterly curbline of Gilbert Place

Section 3. Subsection 7-14.2A Parking Prohibited on Certain Streets During Certain Hours of Certain Days, of the Revised General Ordinances of the Township of West Orange is hereby supplemented and amended as follows: (italic type denotes deletion, bold type denotes addition): Gregory Place South 7:00AM-9:00AM School Days Starting 113 2:00PM-4:00PM feet from the easterly curb line of Gilbert Place and extending 240 feet easterly. If any provisions of this Ordinance or application thereof, under any circumstances, is held invalid, the invalidity shall not affect any of the provisions or applications of this Ordinance that can be given effect without the valid provision(s) or application and to this end, the provisions of this Ordinance are severable. 2874-24 LEGISLATIVE HISTORY This Ordinance will relocate the School Bus Stops from Gregory Place and move them to Gilbert Place in front of Roosevelt Middle School. The Parent/Student automobile drop off zone will be relocated to Gregory Place, where parking will not be allowed, but will be posted as a school drop zone, and Stopping and Standing will be prohibited on the opposite side of Gregory Place during school drop off hours. The Municipal Engineer and Officers of the West Orange Police Traffic Division met with the Roosevelt Middle School Principal and the W.O. Superintendent of Schools on September 10, 2024 to discuss student drop off concerns, which includes accommodating special needs students with a bus drop off area in front of the school entrance.
