2922-25 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER 7, TRAFFIC, SUBSECTION 7-29.1, SPEED LIMITS IN GENERAL OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE TOWNSHIP OF WEST ORANGE BE IT ORDAINED, by the Township Council of the Township of West Orange, in the County of Essex, State of New Jersey as follows: Section 1. Subsection 7-29.1 Speed Limits in General, of the Revised General Ordinance of the Township of West Orange is hereby supplemented and amended as follows, pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. Title 39 Motor Vehicles and Traffic Regulations, Chapters 39:4-8a, 39:4-98, and 39: 4-197. (italic type denotes deletion, bold type denotes addition): Name of Street Direction Speed Limit Location Gregory Avenue Both 25 M.P.H. 25 M.P.H. statutory Speed limit except for a school speed limit of 20 M.P.H. from 8 A.M.-10 A.M. and 3P.M.-5 P.M. weekdays from 25 feet south of Walker Road to 610 feet north of Walker Road. Section 2. If any provisions of this Ordinance or application thereof, under any circumstances, is held invalid, the invalidity shall not affect any other provisions or applications of this Ordinance that can be given effect without the invalid provision(s) or application(s) and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are severable. Section 3. All other Ordinances or parts of Ordinances inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. This Ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication in accordance with law and upon the approval by Resolution of the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. 2922-25 LEGISLATIVE HISTORY This Ordinance amends Chapter 7, Subsection 29.1 of the Revised General Ordinances. It establishes a 20 M.P.H. speed limit within the Gregory School Zone on weekdays between 8AM-10AM and 3PM-5PM when children are normally present. This change is part of a larger program improving visibility and safety within the Gregory School Zone. At all other times, the speed limit will remain at 25 M.P.H.
