Purpose and Scope of Work The purpose of our services was to: 1) explore the subsurface soil, and groundwater conditions at or as close as possible to the five requested boring locations identified to us; 2) estimate the relevant geotechnical engineering properties of the encountered materials; 3) evaluate the site foundation requirements considering the anticipated structural loads and encountered subsurface conditions; 4) recommend an appropriate type of foundation(s) for support of the proposed equipment, and provide geotechnical-related foundation design and installation criteria, including an estimate of the Site Class as defined by the International Building Code 2009, New Jersey Edition, for seismic design purposes; 5) • estimate the post-construction settlements of the recommended foundation system; and 6) discuss appropriate earthwork considerations consistent with the proposed construction and encountered subsurface conditions. To accomplish these purposes, a subsurface investigation comprised of five test borings and two test pits were performed at the site. At the request of PSE&G, the boring and test pit locations were first scanned using ground penetrating radar and then the first three feet at each boring location was manually excavated to confirm that no utilities were present. Borings SBH-1, 3 and 5 were moved slightly due to utility conflicts. Following the manual excavations, the test borings were advanced using truck-mounted drilling equipment (Mobile B-59) and extended to depths ranging from approximately 13 to 27 feet below the existing surface grades. Two test pits were also performed in the southwest portion of the station were a stormwater management basin is being considered. The test pits were excavated using a rubber tire backhoe and extended to depths
