From: Brian Feeney <feeney201@hotmail.com> Sent: Monday, November 10, 2025 11:55 PM To: West Orange Township - Zoning Official <ZoningOfficial@westorange.org> Subject: PSE&G sub-station Geniece, As we discussed, the PSE&G sub-station was constructed in West Orange in the late 1920's. This was part of a larger transmission project that was considered significant for its time. It still functions today as a critical component of the State's electrical distribution system. The New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) included the transmission ring in a study conducted by an architectural historian. This was done in response to PSE&G's plan to upgrade the system.

2 The historian's 2012 report concluded that the transmission ring was eligible to be nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. The SHPO concurred. This is a highlight from the report. It specifically notes the cast iron perimeter fence around the West Orange substation, which is the focus for the HPC. The Commission will be discussing this at the November 12th meeting. "The West Orange Switching Sub-Station and Metuchen Switching Sub-Station are described as "retaining the same Art Deco styling and overall form as the [individually National Register of Historic Places eligible Roseland Sub-station." The justification of eligibility concludes that both the West Orange and Metuchen Switching Sub-stations are eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion A in the area of Architecture as a distinctive and well-preserved example of Industrial Art-Deco-style architecture associated with the electrical utility industry. The West Orange Sub-station includes the central brick control room and repair shop, brick gate house, and brick and cast iron perimeter fence." I've attached a copy of the SHPO's letter that summarizes the study, including the PSE&G North Central Reliability Project. Brian
