TREE PROTECTION PLAN 15 Alan Street — Garage Expansion Project: Garage Expansion — 15 Alan Street Property: Block 146, Lot 72, West Orange, NJ Property Owner: Max Grossman Date: April 26, 2026 Submitted in Response To: Township Engineer Memorandum dated April 24, 2026 (Section IV — Tree Removal) 1. Purpose This Tree Protection Plan is submitted in response to the Township Engineer’s review memorandum dated April 24, 2026 (Section IV), and addresses the protection of trees adjacent to the proposed garage expansion at 15 Alan Street. No trees on the subject property are proposed for removal as part of this application. 2. Tree of Concern A single mature tree located on the adjacent property to the northwest of the subject site (58 valley way) has a canopy that partially overhangs the existing garage and the proposed construction area. The relevant conditions are as follows: • The tree trunk is located approximately 5 feet inside the neighboring property to the northwest, on the opposite side of an existing 8-foot-tall solid fence that runs along the shared property line. • The tree’s canopy is sufficiently high above grade that no canopy trimming is required to accommodate construction. • No other trees on or adjacent to the subject property will be affected by the proposed work. 3. Foundation and Excavation Approach The proposed garage expansion has been designed specifically to minimize any impact on the adjacent tree: • Existing foundation reuse. The portion of the existing garage foundation located beneath the area of canopy overhang will be preserved and reused as part of the new structure. No excavation, removal, or disturbance of this existing foundation will occur aside from the 3 footers noted in the engineering plans. • New foundation setback from canopy. All new foundation work associated with the expansion will be located a minimum of 10 feet from the outer edge of the tree’s canopy (dripline). Based on the tree’s location and the canopy projection, no significant root activity is anticipated at this distance from the dripline, and no root cutting or disturbance is expected during excavation for the new foundation.

• Trunk protection. The trunk of the tree is physically separated from the construction site by both the property line and the existing 8-foot-tall solid fence, and is located approximately 5 feet inside the neighboring property. There is no scenario in which construction activity on the subject property will come into contact with the trunk. 4. Protective Measures During Construction The following measures will be observed throughout construction: • Limited equipment traffic — equipment movement beneath the canopy will be limited to what is necessary for work on the existing foundation footprint. Where practicable, plywood mats or equivalent will be used to distribute loads and minimize soil compaction in the root zone. • Hand-excavation if roots encountered — in the unlikely event that tree roots are encountered during any excavation work, hand-excavation will be used in lieu of mechanical excavation in the immediate area, and any roots that must be severed will be cleanly cut rather than torn. • Crown clearance awareness — I will be serving as the contractor for this property and will personally oversee construction to maintain clearance during material handling and equipment operation near the canopy. 5. Coordination with Neighboring Property Owner The property owner will provide advance notification to the neighboring property owner regarding the construction schedule and the measures being taken to protect their tree. Should any unforeseen condition arise during construction that could affect the tree, the owner will notify the neighbor and the Township Engineer prior to taking further action in that area. 6. Conclusion Given that (i) the tree trunk is located on neighboring property, behind an 8-foot fence, and approximately 5 feet inside the neighbor’s lot line; (ii) the existing foundation beneath the canopy will be preserved and reused without disturbance; (iii) all new foundation work will be set back a minimum of 10 feet from the outer edge of the canopy; and (iv) no canopy trimming is required, the proposed construction is not expected to result in any adverse impact to the adjacent tree.
