68-13 April 9, 2013 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Township of West Orange (the “Township”) operates certain emergency medical transports by the West Orange Fire Department or other West Orange Emergency Management Services; and WHEREAS, in performing emergency medical transport, the Township is only interested in obtaining payment from the user’s insurance company; and WHEREAS, the Township does not seek co-pays or deductibles from the township residents who are transported; and WHEREAS, the Township will not balance bill a resident that has been transported, who is covered by insurance; and WHEREAS, the Township will not charge a resident that has been transported, that is not covered by insurance; and WHEREAS, the Township will utilize the a third party contractor to perform the billing and collection process; and WHEREAS, the Township will charge a user’s insurance provider the following: User’s insurance company - $800.00 per transport plus $15.00 per mile Medicare – Prevailing rate Medicaid – Prevailing rate NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Township Council of the Township of West Orange, County of Essex, State of New Jersey, that the Township can bill for ambulance transport services provided by the West Orange Fire Department or other West Orange Emergency Management Services; and it is further RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution shall be maintained in the Municipal Clerk’s office.
