Purge Preparation: Property Room Consulting, Inc will manage a methodical evaluation of current inventory with the purpose of identifying and segregating items eligible for purge. This process is guided by NJ Statue of Limitations and other appropriate code, NJ AG and Essex County Prosecutor Directives, IAPE best practices and experience. Assist in updating records. Boxes of items for destruction will be verified and sealed. Dept is responsible for arranging and conducting the actual destruction with an appropriate burn facility. Remediation: The state of the evidence function has fallen well outside of accreditation standards. While I’ve only had the opportunity to conduct a brief walk-through, the way that high risk items are handled and stored, aspects of security, and the standard addressing quality are on face non-compliant and likely more significantly so at an organic level. While I suspect this is a result of the function changing hands several times, multiple generations of record keeping systems, pandemic related disruptions and inadequate storage space/schemes, the entire workspace needs reorganizing to accommodate workflow efficiency and pass compliance. In combination with the purging of items no longer needed, we will be able to consolidate the total number of current storage rooms from 4 to at least 3 or possibly 2. Training: Evidence room personnel are required to be involved in the process. Not only is their presence necessary for security and preservation of chain of custody, they will also be receiving invaluable hands on training where they will be exposed to real-world methods of diagnostic

This is not an additional expense, but rather a byproduct of the overall experience. I encourage questions and train with the hopes that the overall workflow never falls into disrepair again.
