DRAFT PROPOSED REVISIONS – OCTOBER 2011 3. Public school shall mean any school that meets state requirements for elementary or secondary education and which secures the major part of its funding from any governmental agency. Security enclosures shall mean any rolling, solid, swinging, sliding or accordioan-type enclosure, solid or not solid, closing vertically or horizontally, installed as a theft prevention measure on any non-residential building or storefront opening; this does not include garage doors. Self-storage facility shall mean a building containing separate, individual and private storage spaces available for lease or rent for varying periods of time. Semitrailer shall mean every vehicle with or without motive power, other than a pole trailer, designed for carrying persons or property and for being drawn by a motor vehicle and so constructed that some apart of its weight and that of its load rests upon or is carried by another vehicle. Senior Citizens Housing Project shall mean any Senior Citizens Housing Project, financed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under Section 202 program for Housing for the Elderly with Supportive Service and the applicable Interim Regulations published in the Federal Register, dated June 12, 1991, 24 CFR Part 889, is deemed a Permitted Use subject to the provisions of this chapter in the R-2 zone only. Separate buildings shall mean if two (2) or more buildings are connected by exterior passageways, plazas or sub-surface passageways, they shall be considered separate buildings. Sign shall mean any structure, letter, word, numeral, figure, design, trademark, flag, banner, canopy, pennant, insignia or any announcement, declaration, demonstration, display, or other device device for visual communication which is used to direct, identify, inform, advertise, attract attention to or promote the interest of any person, place, activity, institution, organization, business or product when the same is placed in view of the general public. Sign, awning or canopy shall mean a sign which is attached to or printed upon the farthest extended edge of the material. Sign, changeable shall mean a sign with the capability of content change by means of manual or remote input. 1. Manually activated changeable sign shall mean a changeable sign whose message copy or

Manually activated changeable sign shall mean a changeable sign whose message copy or content can be changed manually on a display surface. 2. Electrically activated changeable sign shall mean a changeable sign, such as a light- emitting diode (LED) electronic message board or digital display, whose message copy or content can be changed by means of remote electrically energized on-off switching combinations of alphabetic or pictographic components arranged on a display surface. Illumination may be integral to the components, such as characterized by lamps or other light-emitting devices; or it may be from an external light source designed to reflect off the changeable component display. Sign, façade shall mean a sign that is in any manner affixed to any exterior wall of a building or structure and that projects not more than eighteen (18) inches from the building or structure wall. Also includes signs affixed to architectural projections that project from a building provided the copy area of such signs remains on a parallel plane to the face of the building façade or to the face or faces of the architectural projection to which it is affixed. They shall advertise only the permitted use, products or services on the premises on which they are displayed. 23
