When applied to the pavement, the thermoplastic material shall be sufficiently tack-free to carry traffic in not more than 2 minutes when pavement surface temperature is at 50 F, and not more than 10 minutes when pavement surface temperature 130 F. The thermoplastic material shall be installed in a molten state by the spray method at a minimum temperature of 380 F and a maximum temperature of 450F. Scorching or discoloration of material is cause for rejection by the RE. The machinery shall be constructed so that all mixing and conveying parts, up to and including the spray gun maintain the material in the molten state. The thermoplastic material shall be applied at a thickness of not less than 0.030-inch, but in no case shall it exceed a thickness of 0.050-inch. Finished lines shall be within a 1/4-inch of the width specified in the plans. The thickness of the markings will be measured as such random points as the RE selects to determine conformance to these specifications. The thickness shall be measured by placing strips of masking tape randomly on the substrate in the line of the spray gun. Material shall be sprayed on the tape at the normal rate of application. Once the line has cooled slightly, the tape shall be removed and thickness measured. If the measurements show less than 0.030 inches, the RE will "chip" the edges of the markings at random points and measure the thickness of the chips to determine if the overall thickness of the markings is at least 0.030 inches. If the overall thickness or the thickness above the pavement surface is substantially in conformance with the thickness requirements, payment will be made at 100 percent of the contract unit prices involved. When the thickness at a given location is less than 0.030 inches additional measurements will be taken on each side of such location at such intervals as the RE may select to determine the extent of the deficient portion of the marking. The Contractor shall then apply additional thermoplastic material and beads to bring the thickness of the markings to at least 0.030 inches. 610.04 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE ADDED: THE BOROUGH WILL MEASURE AND MAKE PAYMENT FOR ITEMS AS FOLLOWS: Pay Item Pay Unit TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 4” (IF & WHERE DIRECTED) LINEAR FEET TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 6” (IF & WHERE DIRECTED) LINEAR FEET TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 8" (IF & WHERE

FOR ITEMS AS FOLLOWS: Pay Item Pay Unit TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 4” (IF & WHERE DIRECTED) LINEAR FEET TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 6” (IF & WHERE DIRECTED) LINEAR FEET TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 8" (IF & WHERE DIRECTED) LINEAR FEET TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 12” (IF & WHERE DIRECTED) LINEAR FEET TRAFFIC MARKING LINES, 24” (IF & WHERE DIRECTED) LINEAR FEET THE FOLLOWING IS ADDED AT THE END OF THE SUBSECTION: Prior to installing permanent striping, the contractor shall verify no water ponding conditions exist throughout the limits of the project and at the limits of millings. If a ponding condition is identified after permanent striping has been placed the contractor shall regrade the pavement via milling and paving or via infrared repair to allow the area to drain or perform whatever corrective work is necessary to drain the area including but not limited removal and reconstruction of ADA curb ramps, reconstructing curb lines and then restripe the area to conform the proposed improvements. No separate payment shall be made for remobilization to restripe. All traffic stripes and markings shall be thermoplastic. The Township will only make payment for traffic stripe quantities when all markings shown on the plans are installed. In the case of resurfacing, when all prior roadway markings for the resurfaced roadway segment are installed. 42
