SECTION 809 – MULCHING 804.04 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT THE FOLLOWING IS CHANGED TO: Separate payment shall not be made for STRAW MULCHING. Payment for STRAW MULCHING shall be included under the various bid items in sections 606 and 607. SECTION 811 – PLANTING 811.01 DESCRIPTION ADD THE FOLLOWING: The contractor shall provide a list of available trees equivalent in price to the species indicated under the materials to the Township Engineer and Forrester. The Engineer and Forrester shall then select the species and quantity of trees to be planted and indicate the location of the plantings. The Contractor is to coordinate field verified planting locations with Township Forrester. 811.02 MATERIALS ADD THE FOLLOWING: Plants: Shall be one of the following species or an approved equal available species to following trees: Ornamentals to be planted when there are overhead utility lines involved 1. Okame Cherry 2. Kwanzan Cherry 3. Autumn flowering Cherry 4. Redbud 5. Centzan Flowering Crabapple 6. Ivory Silk Japanese Lilac 7. Winter king Hawthorn 8. Pyramidal European Hornbeam Shade trees to be planted when there is growing space adequate and no utility lines 1. Jefferson Elm 2. Swamp White Oak 3. Eastern Hackberry 4. Black Gum 5. Magar Gingko 6. Trident maple 7. Hedge Maple 8. Dawn Redwood 9. Fruitless Sweetgum All trees shall be 1 ½”-2 ½”” caliper. The location of the trees will be at the direction of the Engineer and/or Forester. All planting to be done whenever the weather and soil conditions are favorable or as otherwise authorized by the Owner or his representative. All plant material shall conform to the American Standard for Nursery Stock, as published by the American Association of Nurserymen, 1250 I Street, N.W., Suite 500, Washington, D.C. 20005. All plants must be disease, fungi, and insect free upon delivery. All materials must be watered down and covered with a heavy tarpaulin while in transit. Upon arrival the tarp shall be lifted off the plant material. 1.) Roots and balls shall at all times be protected from the sun or from drying winds. 2.) Plants that are not immediately planted upon delivery shall be set on the ground and well protected with soil, wet moss, or other applicable material as approved by the Engineer. Soil: Topsoil furnished shall contain no stones, lumps, roots, or similar objects larger than one inch in any dimension and shall have a pH value not less than 5.5 and not more than 7.5. If the pH value of the topsoil is less than 5.5, it shall be increased by applying ground limestone at the rate necessary to attain a pH value in the range required. Topsoil shall have a minimum organic content of not less than 3.75 percent by weight. When the organic content of the topsoil furnished is less than 3.75 percent, it shall be increased by adding peat at the rate necessary to attain this minimum organic content range required. Diameter and Depth of Size of Trees Planting Holes 2-1/2 to 3 inch caliper 40 inches by 26 inches Should the ball be larger than specified, the excavation must have a twelve inch clearance around the entire ball. The depth of the hole should be deep enough to allow for a good six inches of drainage after being backfilled and firmed. Amended soil shall be 80% topsoil in accordance with 917.01, 20% organic material such as leaf mold or peat moss. In addition, incorporate a 10-10-10 fertilizer and an endo and ectomycorrhizal fungi transplant amendment; both applied per the manufacturer’s recommendation. Each tree planted shall receive a 20 gallon “TreeGator” drip bag watering system or approved equal. “TreeGator” may be obtained from Spectrum Products, Inc., 4200 Atlantic Ave., Suite 152, Raleigh, NC 27604, 1-(800)-800-7391. Each tree planted within 5 feet of a sidewalk shall receive a root control system called “Biobarrier” or approved equal. “Biobarrier” may be obtained from Reemay Inc., 70 Old Hickory Blvd., Old Hickory, TN 37138, (615)-847-7000. Drip bag shall be replenished once a week throughout the dry season, from May 15 to September 15. Drip bags that are damaged or missing during the watering season shall be replaced at no additional cost to the Township. All “TreeGator” drip bags shall be considered the property of the Township and shall be turned over to Public Works at the completion of the project. 811.03.02 Plant Establishment Period THE THIRD AND FOURTH PARAGRAPHS ARE CHANGED TO: All plantings will be warrantied under the provisions of the project surety as described in Section 108.21. If the Township determines that plants need to be replaced during the warrantee period, replant plants as specified in 811.03.01 within 3 weeks of notification. If replacing outside of the optimal planting season, as specified in Table 811.03.01-1, only use containerized or balled and burlapped plants that are certified as being dug dormant. 2. 811.04 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE ADDED: Pay Item Pay Unit SMALL DECIDUOUS TREE, 2.0-2.5 CAL., B&B UNIT THE LAST PARAGRAPH IS REPLACED WITH THE FOLLOWING: The Township will make no payment for plants rendered unacceptable until replaced with healthy specimen of similar species and size. Tree plantings shall include the root control system, drip bag watering system, and water. The Township will make no payment for wood chip mulching associated with planting. All costs shall be included in the price bid for the plant material. The limits for wood chip mulch associated with planting will extend from the center of the plant out to the drip line or edge of the plant pit/bed, whichever is greater. DIVISION 900 – MATERIALS SECTION 902 – ASPHALT 902.01.01 Asphalt Binder THE FIRST TWO PARAGRAPHS ARE CHANGED TO: Use an asphalt binder that is storage-stable and conforms to AASHTO M 332. Include compliance with the elastic response requirement in Figure 1 of AASHTO R 92, if applicable. 902.02.01 Mix Designations PART (4) IS CHANGED TO: 4. “E” The fourth field in the Item description designates the high temperature designation of the performance- graded binder. Options are “64” for PG 64S-22 and “E” for PG 64E-22. 902.02.03 Mix Design THE FOLLOWING IS ADDED TO THE FIRST PARAGRAPH: Unless otherwise approved by the engineer, only one source of supply for hot mix asphalt surface course may be used on the project. 902.02.04 Sampling and Testing A General Acceptance Requirements. THE SECOND PARAGRAPH OF SECTION (A) IS CHANGED TO: For PG 64S-22, ensure that the temperature of the mixture at discharge from the plant or surge and storage bins is at least 290 °F when the ambient temperature is less than 50 °F or is at least 275 °F when the ambient temperature is greater than or equal to 50 °F. For PG 64E-22, ensure that the temperature of the mixture at discharge from the plant or surge and storage bins is at least 10 °F above the manufacturer’s recommended laydown temperature. For mixes produced using a WMA additive or process, ensure that the temperature of the mixture at discharge from the plant or surge and storage bins is at least 10 °F above the WMA manufacturer’s recommended laydown temperature. D. Acceptance Testing and Requirements. PART D IS CHANGED TO: The ME will determine volumetric properties at Ndes for acceptance from samples taken, compacted, and tested at the HMA plant. The ME will compact HMA to the number of design gyrations (N des) specified in Table 902.02.03-2, using equipment according to AASHTO T 312. The ME will determine bulk specific gravity of the compacted sample according to AASHTO T 166. The ME will use the most current QC maximum specific gravity test result in calculating the volumetric properties of the HMA. The ME will determine the dust-to-binder ratio from the composition results as tested by the QC technician. Ensure that the HMA mixture conforms to the requirements specified in Table

immediately take an acceptance sample to test and verify that the composition meet gradation and volumetric requirements specified in Table 902.02.03-1 and Table 902.02.04-1. If 2 consecutive acceptance or quality control samples are outside the gradation or volumetric requirements specified in Table 902.02.03-1 or Table 902.02.04-1, immediately stop production and shipping. After a production stop, obtain ME approval of a plant correction plan before resuming production. Upon restarting production, do not transport mixture to the Project Limits before the results of a quality control sample from the mixture indicate that the mixture meets gradation and volumetric requirements specified in Table 902.02.03-1 and Table 902.02.04-1 and ME approval. The ME will reject mixture produced at initial restarting that does not meet gradation and volumetric requirements specified in Table 902.02.03-1 and Table 902.02.04-1. The ME will test a minimum of 1 sample per 3,500 tons for moisture, basing moisture determinations on the weight loss of an approximately 1,600 gram sample of mixture heated for 1 hour in an oven at 280 ± 5 °F. Ensure that the moisture content of the mixture at discharge from the plant does not exceed 1.0 percent. The Department may accept the HMA as specified in 902.02.04.A through 902.02.04.E by employing staff or an independent testing agency at the HMA plant during production. The inspector who performs the quality assurance sampling shall be certified by the Society of Asphalt Technologists of New Jersey as an Asphalt Plant Technologist, Level 2. Form “DS-8 HMA Testing Summary Report – State Aid” provided on the Local Aid Website must be utilized by the Laboratory to report their findings to the RE. Alternatively, the Department may accept the HMA by Certification of Compliance according to 106.07.
