Show all pagesTownship of West Orange- Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant FY2018 Application widely by police departments throughout the country and have proven effective in training officers. Having command-level officers attend these courses will effectively enhance the operations of each Division of the Department which will improve the safety and wellness of all members of each Division. Without these funds, the WOPD will not be able to send these officers for this advanced training which is critical to improve efficiency and safety for both officers and residents. In addition, the WOPD will purchase two license plate readers that will capture license plate numbers that come into view, along with the location, date, and time. The data, which includes photographs of the vehicle and sometimes its driver and passengers, is then uploaded to a central server. The WOPD will place the readers in targeted locations based upon areas of the greatest concern and incidences. This will help the WOPD in its overall operations as we will have an additional source of information and data tracking to help lessen the man-hours needed to search for specific vehicles and as a result, improve overall efficiency of our operations. The WOPD will not be able to purchase this equipment, which is critical to improve efficiency of operations, without these funds. B. Project Design and Implementation The goal of this project is to improve the capacity of the command staff of the WOPD in an effort to improve safety and overall wellness for all officers which in turn will increase the Department’s efficiency. The WOPD will utilize FY2018 funding to send four officers to the Executive Leadership Program for Public Safety Personnel at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Trainings will be targeted to all command officers for different divisions of the Department so that as many officers as possible are impacted by this project. To date, two first-line supervisors of the Department have already attended this training which has proven extremely effective. As such, with these funds we will be able to send an additional four officers to this training. The WOPD will send four officers to the course over the two-year project period. Two officers will attend per semester to ensure staffing levels are not impacted. 2
