DGABC to be placed and compacted in accordance with Section 401. Modular pavers in driveways to be placed on a concrete base course with a sand leveling bed. A% to 1” setting bed consisting of stone dust should be applied over the concrete subbase conforming to ASTM C 33. When calculating bed levels, it is important to consider that the bricks will be compacted approximately 1/8” - 14" into the setting bed with a plate vibrator during final steps of installation. Level setting bed with a straight edge to desired heights. Level, but do not compact. Only spread sufficient area that can be covered with Pavers the same day. Do not step
final steps of installation. Level setting bed with a straight edge to desired heights. Level, but do not compact. Only spread sufficient area that can be covered with Pavers the same day. Do not step in or disturb the setting bed in any manner. Place the paving bricks into position by hand, keeping joints as tight as possible. As soon as a sufficient area of bricks has been laid, the bricks are compacted into the setting bed with a high frequency, low amplitude plate vibrator. Units are pressed into setting bed and compacted. Joints are then filled with sand and brick pavers are vibrated until all joints are completely filled. Excess sand is removed. The only cutting of the bricks needed is at the boundaries. Cutting should be carried out with a diamond masonry saw. The pavement can be used by normal traffic as soon as it is completed. The sand to be used as joint fill should be stabilized with an organic additive “SANDLOCK’ as provided by PAVE TECH INC. or approved equal. Materials and mixing procedures as indicated in the manufacturer's specifications. The cost for this work shall be covered under the unit price bid for Concrete Modular Paver. As directed, Aluminum paver restraints shall be utilized along planters and green areas. Materials and installation procedures as indicated in the manufacturer's specifications. The cost for this work shall be covered under the unit price bid for paver item. On resetting work, the Contractor shall carefully remove the existing pavers, clean, and store pavers for resetting once base course work is complete. 34
Construction Tolerances for ADA Compatibility: In locations where pavers are set with the pedestrian area construction tolerances are to be met. The following are the tolerances published by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute as a result of the project identified below: ard.gov/research/b 35
